Zelenskiy seeks Markarova’s replacement as ambassador to the U.S. – The Washington Post

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is looking for a candidate to replace Oksana Markarova as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States. This was written by The Washington Post, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The publication cites an unnamed Ukrainian official.
“Zelenskiy is now reviewing candidates to replace her, a Ukrainian official said. The Ukrainian Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment,”
– the Washington Post wrote.
As wrote, Oksana Markarova’s problems began after the President of Ukraine visited a military plant in Pennsylvania during his trip to the United States in September this year. As it turned out, Zelenskyy was accompanied by representatives of the Democratic Party, but not a single Republican was invited.

The Republican Party viewed the visit as interference in the American elections. US Congress Speaker Mike Johnson accused Markarova of having organized the visit. Johnson called on Zelenskyy to immediately fire Markarova and said that Zelenskyy’s visit was “clearly a campaign event and clearly interference in the election.”
In response, Zelenskyy said he would not discuss personnel issues with representatives of other states.
“I am the president of Ukraine, and I can only discuss our ambassadors with the speaker of my country. This is the Constitution, I cannot discuss this with Speaker Johnson, with all due respect, so this is not the case,”
– Zelensky said in an interview with Fox News.
However, it seems that with the arrival of Trump in the White House, Markarova is becoming an unwelcome person in the United States. As former Ukrainian Economy Minister Tymofiy Mylovanov commented to The Washington Post, Markarova’s figure only deepens the rift between the Zelenskyy and Trump teams.
“…this incident [the visit to the military plant in Pennsylvania] deepened the rift between Zelenskyy’s team and Trump’s entourage. Zelensky defended Markarova at the time, but it seems that now, after Trump’s election victory, the situation will change. Oksana is the best ambassador of Ukraine to the United States that I know. I worked with Oksana in the government and have incredible respect for her. Oksana is a professional and a patriot. Politics is a ruthless and unfair thing…”

The Ukrainian Embassy in the United States has not yet commented on this information.
