Zelensky denies claims of US pressure: what was actually discussed in Berlin

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied the information spread in some media about the alleged pressure on Ukrainian representatives by the US delegation to make concessions. According to him, the United States did not put forward any demands on Ukraine, but only voiced the position and vision of the Russian Federation regarding the possible end of the war. The Head of State said this during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that he did not regard Washington’s actions as pressure or an attempt to impose any decisions on Ukraine.

“I do not believe that the United States demanded anything from us. I perceive the United States as our strategic partners. We heard the issue of territories in the context of Russia’s vision or Russian demands from the United States, but we perceive it exclusively as the position of the Russian Federation,” the president said.

According to Zelenskyy, the American side only conveyed to Kyiv the conditions put forward by Russia, without insisting on their acceptance.

Ukraine conveyed its own vision to the United States for further communication with Russia

The President also noted that Ukraine had no demands on the United States. Instead, Kyiv conveyed its vision of key issues to Washington so that the American side could convey it to the Russian side.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine and the United States are constantly exchanging positions on sensitive and fundamental issues, including an assessment of Russia’s intentions and goals.

The US hears Ukraine’s position – a key signal of the negotiations

Zelenskyy also emphasized a fundamental point: Ukraine’s position remains heard by its American partners.

Thus, the president denied rumors of pressure from the United States and emphasized the strategic nature of the partnership between Kyiv and Washington in matters of security and peace.

Negotiations in Berlin: meaningful and effective

on December 14-15, the second round of talks between Ukraine and U.S. representatives took place in Berlin with Zelenskyy’s personal participation. Following the meetings, Zelenskyy characterized the talks as meaningful and productive.

on December 15, the head of state said that these consultations could be an important step towards achieving a “decent peace” for Ukraine.
