President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to end the war in Ukraine without returning the seized territories in exchange for NATO membership. The head of state said this in an interview with Sky TV channel, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

In an interview with Sky News chief correspondent Stuart Ramsay, the Ukrainian leader suggested that a ceasefire agreement could be reached if the Ukrainian territory he controls is taken “under the NATO umbrella,” which would allow him to negotiate the return of the rest of the territory later “diplomatically.”

Zelenskiy said that NATO membership should be offered to the non-occupied parts of the country to end the hot phase of the war, provided that the invitation to NATO itself includes Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders.

“If we want to stop the hot phase of the war, we must take under the NATO umbrella the territory of Ukraine that we (the Armed Forces – ed.) control. We have to do it quickly. And then the occupied territories … Ukraine will be able to return them through diplomatic means,” the President of Ukraine said during the interview.

It should be noted that this is Zelenskyy’s first statement since the beginning of the full-scale war that he is ready to end it without returning the occupied territories.
