Zelenskyy declares readiness for new talks with the US: what are Ukraine’s proposals?

Ukraine is ready to sit down at the negotiating table as soon as possible to move closer to a lasting peace, and the meeting between the leaders of the United States and Ukraine at the White House on February 28 did not go as planned. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote about this on his page on the social network X on Tuesday, March 4, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“I want to emphasize once again that Ukraine strives for peace. None of us wants an endless war. No one wants peace more than Ukrainians. My team and I are ready to work under the strong leadership of President Trump to achieve a lasting peace,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote.

According to the Ukrainian leader, he and his team are ready to work quickly to end the war. And the first step in this direction could be the release of prisoners and an immediate ceasefire in the sky: a ban on missiles, long-range drones, bombing of energy and other civilian infrastructure – and an immediate truce at sea if Russia does the same.

“Then we want to go through all the next stages very quickly and agree on a strong final agreement with the United States,” the Ukrainian president expressed his readiness to cooperate.

In his post, he also thanked the United States for its assistance.

“We really appreciate how much America has done to help Ukraine preserve its sovereignty and independence. And we remember the turning point when President Trump provided Ukraine with Javelins. We are grateful for that,” Zelensky wrote.

The President of Ukraine also admitted that his meeting in Washington on February 28 with US President Donald Trump “did not go as planned.”

“It is a shame that this happened. It’s time to do the right thing. We would like to see further cooperation and communication be constructive. As for the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it at any time and in any convenient format. We see this agreement as a step towards strengthening security and reliable security guarantees, and we hope that it works effectively,” Zelenskyy summarized.

It should be noted that such statements by the Ukrainian president came against the backdrop of statements by another participant in the February 28 talks at the White House. on March 4, 2025, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance discussed the potential resumption of military assistance to Ukraine, emphasizing that such a decision would be made if Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his administration interacted privately with the United States on a peace agreement.

Vance emphasized that the United States is seeking to formalize an agreement with Ukraine on mining rights, which he believes will serve as a significant deterrent against further Russian aggression.

Vance said that the US giving Ukraine an economic stake in the future of Ukraine would provide a stronger security guarantee than the deployment of foreign troops. He also criticized the proposals of European countries to send peacekeeping forces to Ukraine, suggesting that economic participation would be more effective in ensuring Ukraine’s security.

Vance also noted that the United States is working on a plan for Ukraine in cooperation with its Russian counterparts following President Trump’s decision to suspend defense aid to Kyiv.
