13 February 21:37

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about “good results at the front” and thanked the military. The head of state made the remarks on February 13 during his traditional evening video address, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“Today we had reports from our military – very important reports. There is a good result on the frontline – I won’t call the geography wrong, I won’t make it political. But I want to thank our guys from the 425th separate assault regiment – your strength really matters. Well done,” Zelensky said.

The Head of State added that he had also spoken with the Chief of the Main Command, Oleksandr Syrskyi. As a result of this meeting, Volodymyr Zelenskyy decided to strengthen the Air Force, namely the aviation component.

“I instructed the Commander-in-Chief to talk with Brigadier General Serhiy Holubtsov and report on the possibility of appropriate personnel changes in the Air Force and consider the appointment of Brigadier General Holubtsov as Deputy Commander of the Air Force,” the President of Ukraine said.

What is the current situation at the front in Ukraine?

As of February 2025, the situation on the frontline in Ukraine remains extremely tense and dynamic. Russian troops have made significant gains, advancing more than 90 square miles of territory over the past week, the most significant advance since the start of the invasion. The fighting has been particularly intense in the area of Kurakhove in Donetsk region, where street clashes and massive shelling have been taking place. The capture of Kurakhove opens the way for Russian forces to advance further toward Zaporizhzhia and Pokrovsk.

Ukrainian forces are facing difficulties due to a lack of personnel and resources. The situation is further complicated by reports of corruption within Ukrainian structures, which undermines the army’s combat capability. An additional factor is the participation of North Korean soldiers on the side of Russia, which increases pressure on Ukrainian forces.

The recent strikes by the Ukrainian army using US missiles have prompted retaliatory actions by Russia, including massive missile and drone attacks that have caused significant damage, especially to energy infrastructure in the western regions of Ukraine. Moscow has rejected the possibility of a ceasefire or freezing of the conflict, indicating its intention to continue offensive actions.

On the front line, Ukrainian forces continue to hold the line despite the enemy’s numerical superiority. Intense fighting continues in the areas of Toretsk and Chasovyi Yar, where Ukrainian troops are trying to hold back the advance of Russian units. However, in some sectors of the front, Ukrainian forces were forced to retreat under pressure from superior enemy forces.

Overall, the situation on the front remains extremely complicated and unpredictable. Both sides are suffering significant losses, and the prospects for resolving the conflict remain uncertain. The international community is closely monitoring the developments, expressing concern about the possible escalation and humanitarian consequences of the ongoing hostilities.

Peace and war in Ukraine

The international arena is witnessing significant changes. US President Donald Trump initiated talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin aimed at ending the war. However, the Ukrainian military has expressed concerns that such talks could lead to concessions in favor of Russia, which would be perceived as a betrayal. European leaders, including British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, insist that Ukraine must participate in any peace talks and oppose the imposition of peace conditions without its consent.

At the same time, the United Arab Emirates offered to act as a mediator and conduct negotiations aimed at ending the conflict. However, the details and possible outcomes of these initiatives remain uncertain.
