Zelensky introduces a new holiday in Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree establishing the Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity, which will be celebrated annually on May 21. The relevant decree, No. 883/2024 of December 27 , was published on the President’s website.

The decree comes into force on the day of its publication.

“To establish the Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity in Ukraine, which shall be celebrated annually on May 21,” reads Decree No. 883.

The document states that the Day of Interethnic Harmony, which will be celebrated annually on May 21, is introduced to strengthen the unity and harmony of the Ukrainian people, to strengthen the Ukrainian national and civic identity.

It is also to promote the free development of cultural diversity of indigenous peoples and national minorities (communities) and to show respect for their contribution to the defense of Ukraine’s state sovereignty and independence, and to the armed struggle against the aggressor state.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also spoke about the new holiday at a meeting with representatives of national communities and indigenous peoples of Ukraine.

“May 21 will be the Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity. This is not only your… I believe that this is important for the whole of Ukraine, but this is your day to emphasize that we in Ukraine have and will definitely preserve our ability to be together, together as independent Ukrainians,” Zelensky said.
