Zelensky changed the composition of the National Security and Defense Council: who was fired

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has changed the composition of the National Security and Defense Council. The corresponding decree was published on the website of the Presidential Office, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

The document states that the president is removing Ihor Cherkasky, the former head of the State Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine, from the NSDC. He had been a member of the National Security and Defense Council since July 15, 2019.

“In partial amendment of Article 1 of the Decree of the President of Ukraine of March 29, 2024, No. 193/2024 “On the Composition of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine” (as amended by Decrees of September 13, 2024, No. 627/2024 and November 6, 2024, No. 751/2024), Ihor Cherkasky shall be removed from the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine,” the decree says.

The decree came into force on the day of its publication, i.e. January 8, 2025.

It should be noted that from March 1, 2014, to December 31, 2024, Cherkasky was the head of the State Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine. At the end of last year, he was replaced by Philip Pronin, the former head of the Poltava Regional Audit Office.

Since December 2007, he has been a member of the Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety.
