Zelensky reappoints Gerega as commander of the Armed Forces Support Forces

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reappointed Major General Dmytro Hereha as the Commander of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is stated in Presidential Decree No. 315/2024.
“To appoint Dmytro Mykhailovych Hereha as the Commander of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,”
– the decree reads.
Prior to that, Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Brigadier General Oleksandr Yakovets from this position.
It should be noted that Dmytro Gerega commanded the Armed Forces Support Forces from August 2021 to March 2024.
Zelensky dismissed the major general by his decree No. 140/2024 of 4 March and appointed Oleksandr Yakovets in his place.
But now he has appointed him again.
What is known about Gerega
Dmytro Gerega is a Ukrainian military leader, Major General.
He was born in 1971 in the Chernivtsi region. After graduating from the Higher Military Engineering School, he began his career as a platoon commander.
He was the Head of the Operational Support Department of the 8th Army Corps of the Land Forces of Ukraine in Zhytomyr and the Head of the Support Forces Department of the Operational Command “North” in Chernihiv.
Since 2014, he has participated in combat operations in the war in eastern Ukraine. Under his leadership, engineering support was provided to the units of the 8th Army Corps in the area of hostilities.
He was the commander of the Armed Forces Support Forces in 2021-2024.
He has received the medals “For Military Service to Ukraine” and “Defender of the Fatherland”, as well as the President’s decoration. In 2020, he graduated from the Ivan Cherniakhovskyi National Defence University of Ukraine with a degree in operational and strategic studies.
TheSupport Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was established in 2020. The Support Forces include electronic warfare troops, engineer troops, radiation, chemical and biological defence troops, military topographic service, hydrometeorological service and cynological service.
