Gerard Depardieu detained over sexual assault allegations

Police detained actor Gerard Depardieu in Paris. He will be interrogated in connection with accusations of sexual assault by two women. This was reported by BFMTV, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The first woman claims that in 2014, when she was working as an assistant on the set of The Magician and the Siamese by Jean-Pierre Mocchi, the screen star grabbed her buttocks and made “obscene comments” and later touched her “intimate parts”.
The second woman claimed that in 2021, on the set of Jean Becker’s Les Volets Verts Green Shutters, the actor touched her body and hinted at intimacy. Another person managed to help the alleged victim escape from the actor’s grasp. The film crew even forced Depardieu to apologise after the scandal. According to the woman, after these events, Gerard called her a “whore” during the filming.
In total, 13 women accused the actor of sexual harassment. However, only three of them filed complaints with the prosecutor’s office.
The celebrity denies the accusations. In 2023, Depardieu also wrote an open letter to Le Figaro in which he claimed that nothing of the sort had happened.
In early December, one of Depardieu’s alleged victims, actress Emmanuelle Debevere, committed suicide by jumping from a bridge into the Seine River in Paris.
It is worth noting that in 2013, Gerard Depardieu was granted Russian citizenship. He left France because of his dissatisfaction with the tax for the rich, which was introduced by the then President François Hollande.
Gerard Depardieu flew to Sochi to personally collect his Russian passport. The actor was registered in Saransk in the apartment of his friend, former director of the State Film Fund Nikolai Borodachev.
Depardieu has not changed his mind about Russia, which has attacked Ukraine and is killing innocent people every day. According to the actor, despite everything, he likes Russian culture and loves this country.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine, Depardieu is on the “blacklist”. The actor is banned from travelling to the country. The reason for this was Gerard’s separatist statements, in particular that Ukraine is part of Russia.
