In June 2024, Ukraine saw a sharp drop in the number of registrations of individual entrepreneurs. This is evidenced by the data of an analytical study by YouControl.Market, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
Thus, in all regions of the country, the number of new sole proprietorships decreased by 30% compared to June last year. A particularly noticeable drop was recorded in Kharkiv, where the number of registrations fell by 38.9%, which may be due to the intensification of terrorist attacks by Russia.
Despite the June decline, more than 148,000 new sole proprietors were registered in Ukraine in the first half of 2024, which is 10.8% more than in the same period in 2023.
Interestingly, women are significantly ahead of men in starting a new business: 59.8% of new sole proprietorships are owned by women, while men registered only 40.2%. Experts attribute this phenomenon to the possible impact of mobilisation processes on men’s willingness to officially register their business.
Among the economic sectors, the largest number of new sole proprietorships appeared in retail, information technology, and services. However, the real leader in terms of growth was the education sector, where the number of new sole proprietors increased by 45.5% compared to last year.
Registration of legal entities in the first half of 2024 increased by 5.6%, reaching almost 13.2 thousand new companies. However, there was also a decline in June, with the number of new registrations down 22% compared to June 2023.
As reported by , a record number of criminal cases against businesses have been opened in Ukraine : more than 5,000 companies are under investigation. And according to the Manifesto 42 movement, not a single criminal case involving pressure on entrepreneurs has been closed in Ukraine.
