In the Khmelnytsky region, a man and a woman tortured their neighbour and tried to take her to the forest because they believed her to be a witch. This was reported by the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

The prosecutor’s office has notified a 27-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman of suspicion of torture, threats of murder, illegal deprivation of liberty and violation of the inviolability of the home.

The incident took place on 7 June in the village of Chotyrboky, Shepetivka district. The suspects came to the house of a fellow villager while drunk, started knocking on the windows and broke down the door.

Under the false pretext that the victim was allegedly performing witchcraft rituals, they beat the woman with their fists and kicked her in the head, strangled her, threatened to kill her and even inflicted several stab wounds.

The man ignored the woman’s pleas to stop the abuse and punched her in the face, knocking her unconscious. The perpetrators dragged her outside and tried to put her in the trunk of a car to take her to the forest.

The victim managed to call the police when the suspects were breaking into the house. The offenders were detained. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided.
