The Verkhovna Rada has adopted in the first reading bill No. 12451, which allows persons missing as a result of hostilities or armed conflict to be recognized as dead after six months in exceptional cases.

According to European Solidarity MP Oleksiy Honcharenko, 262 MPs voted in favor of the decision, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The document aims to provide legal protection to the families of missing persons, including military personnel who performed combat missions. The bill stipulates that, as a general rule, a person may be declared dead by a court after two years from the end of hostilities.

However, in the case of specific circumstances, for example, if it is established that the disappearance occurred in life-threatening conditions, the court will be able to declare a person dead as early as six months after the disappearance.

According to the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances, almost 11,000 profiles of such persons have been registered so far.
