President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a bill to deprive traitors of Ukraine of state awards. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the bill card.

As reported, on November 20, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on depriving state awards for popularizing or propagandizing the aggressor state or committing other illegal actions against Ukraine.

On the same day, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, signed the law and sent it to the President of Ukraine for signature.

On November 20, Zelenskyy also signed a law on depriving traitors of Ukraine of state awards.

The document was initiated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who called on the Rada to consider the bill back in July. State awards, including the title of Hero of Ukraine, the Order of Merit, and others, will be taken away from those who popularize or promote Russia, justify the war and occupation.

This Law shall enter into force on the day following the day of its publication.

Details of the law

Traitors to Ukraine will be deprived of their awards by a court decision or by the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).

This applies to those who have received state awards of Ukraine, including the Hero of Ukraine, the Order of Merit, and others.

Thus, the court may impose an additional penalty in the form of deprivation of state awards on persons found guilty of committing a grave or especially grave crime, a criminal offense against the foundations of national security of Ukraine, against peace, security of humanity and international law and order.

It also stipulates that the court, when passing a sentence, must decide, among other things, whether there are grounds for depriving the accused of a state award of Ukraine.

The voted draft law also provides for the deprivation of state awards by a decision of the National Security and Defense Council, enacted by a presidential decree.

It also stipulates that a person deprived of state awards of Ukraine loses the right to all rights and benefits provided for persons awarded state awards of Ukraine.
