Wage growth in Ukraine: IT and aviation leading the way, education and healthcare lagging behind
11 December 2024 15:50
According to the State Statistics Service, the average salary in Ukraine continues to show steady growth in 2024. In the third quarter, the average figure for the economy reached UAH 21,946, which is 22.3% more than in the same period last year.
There are questions about the reliability of this data, as it does not, for example, match the data from the Pension Fund. However, certain trends can be traced. In particular, according to the State Statistics Service, it is possible to look at trends in salaries by industry.
Traditionally, the highest salaries are recorded in the information and telecommunications sector, where the average monthly income of an employee, according to the State Statistics Service, is UAH 52,589. The second place is occupied by air transport with an indicator of UAH 43,403, and the financial and insurance sector closes the top three, where the average salary reaches UAH 41,592.

Looking at the third quarter figures, the most dynamic growth is demonstrated by the information and telecommunications sector, where salaries increased by 40.1% compared to the same time last year. Significant growth is also observed in postal and courier services (32.6%), real estate (30%), and air transport, which, before growing by 30% in the third quarter, showed a 46% increase in the second quarter.
At the same time, the situation in socially important sectors is worrying. Employees of libraries, archives, and museums receive an average salary of only UAH 13,653, while educators receive UAH 14,219. Healthcare also remains among the lowest paid sectors with an average salary of UAH 17,836. In addition, these industries show the lowest wage growth rates, ranging from 14 to 16 percent compared to the previous year.
It is worth noting that the statistics do not take into account the temporarily occupied territories and the war zone, and cover only companies with more than 10 employees. Despite the overall positive dynamics, a significant gap between industries points to the need to revise the remuneration policy, especially in the public sector.
