Breakdown of peace with Russia in 2022: Czech Prime Minister blames Johnson for everything
8 February 07:14
Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said that the chance for peace between Russia and Ukraine in 2022 was lost due to outside interference.
According to "Komersant Ukrainian", Andrej Babiš made this statement on TN.cz.
According to the prime minister, in April 2022, Kyiv and Moscow were as close as possible to concluding a peace agreement, but this process, according to Babiš, was disrupted after the intervention of Ukraine’s Western partners.
Andrej Babiš directly accused the then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson of preventing the negotiations from being completed.
According to Babiš, after Boris Johnson’s visit to Ukraine, the negotiation process was disrupted and the chance for a quick end to the war was lost.
The Czech prime minister also noted that diplomatic efforts to end the war have now been revitalized. At the same time, the politician is convinced that Europe alone is not capable of stopping the war. He names Donald Trump as the key player in achieving peace.
“The negotiations are intense. It seems that they are approaching some kind of long-term solution – ending the war and creating stable security guarantees for Ukraine. But Europe will not be able to do this without Donald Trump,” Babiš said.
What the Czech Republic is offering
Separately, the Czech prime minister called on European countries to resume direct dialogue with Russia, considering this a necessary condition for achieving a ceasefire. According to him, negotiations with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin could be conducted by the leaders of key European states.
The Czech prime minister has compiled a list of leaders who could sit down at the negotiating table with the Kremlin:
- Friedrich Merz (Chancellor of Germany);
- Emmanuel Macron (President of France);
- Keir Starmer (Prime Minister of the United Kingdom);
- Giorgia Meloni (Prime Minister of Italy).
Plan to end the war
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly stated that Ukraine has long insisted on the development of a clear, step-by-step action plan—the so-called Sequence Plan—which would clearly outline the steps to be taken by the parties and specific deadlines for the implementation of agreements.
He also says that the US wants to end Russia’s war against Ukraine before the start of summer and may exert diplomatic pressure in line with this schedule.
Estonia and Latvia, on the other hand, have spoken out in favor of resuming negotiations between Europe and Russia. In particular, they want European countries to participate in peace talks on Ukraine.
