Ukrainian Armed Forces attack Rosneft’s largest oil refinery: video
15 August 11:56
On the night of August 15, units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in coordination with other defense forces, struck at the Syzran Oil Refinery in the Samara region of the Russian Federation. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on the successful operation, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The Syzran refinery is one of the largest in the Rosneft system.
The company produces a wide range of fuels, including aviation kerosene. It is involved in supplying the Russian armed forces.
“The target was hit, a fire and explosions were recorded,” the General Staff reported.
The department also emphasized: “The Defense Forces continue to take measures to undermine the military and economic potential of the Russian occupiers and force Russia to stop its armed aggression against Ukraine.”

Photos and videos from Syzran show a fire in the vicinity of the refinery in at least three places.
The governor of the Samara region, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev , confirmed the drone attack on the region, without mentioning the refinery.
He claims that “air defense is working” and that “13 enemy drones were allegedly destroyed.”
“The airspace is closed. For the safety of citizens, temporary restrictions on the mobile Internet have been introduced,” Fedorishchev wrote.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that seven UAVs were shot down over the Samara region, and 45 drones were allegedly destroyed over eight other regions of Russia.
The Syzran refinery supplies fuel to the Samara, Saratov and Penza regions of Russia and partially to the central regions of the country. Petro Andriushchenko, head of the Center for Occupation Studies, spoke about the drone attack and the role of the Syzran Oil Refinery on his Telegram channel.
He explained the importance of the Syzran Oil Refinery in the Samara region for the oil refining industry and the Russian economy, namely:
- The refinery supplies fuel to the Samara, Saratov, Penza regions and partially to the central regions of Russia;
- has access to rail and river routes;
- produces gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, and is critical for the regional agricultural sector and local businesses;
- supplies fuel to airfields and military units in the Central and Southern Districts of Russia.
The official believes that the shutdown or damage to the Syzran refinery could cause a serious fuel shortage in the region, forcing Russians to transfer products from other refineries.
In general, as Petro Andriushchenko noted, this is the third drone attack on the Syzran refinery in the period of 2024-2025.
