The Ukrainian Armed Forces are moving to a new level in the fight against drones: Syrskyi holds meeting

The Ukrainian army is strengthening its defense against enemy drones and moving to a new level of countering the air threat. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi held a working meeting to identify key tasks for units countering Russian drones, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

According to him, in September, during the attacks on Ukraine, the Russian army used almost 6900 drones, of which more than 3600 were Shahed-type strike drones. Russians are constantly changing their tactics of using drones.

“For example, the Russian invaders have intensified attacks on the frontline areas and the border. They are actively attacking critical infrastructure and civilian targets,” noted Syrsky.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces command has made a number of decisions to strengthen air defense in these areas, in particular by increasing the number of interceptor drone crews.

“We continue to build up the capabilities of units that counter enemy UAVs with the help of interceptors. Today, most of the Russian attack drones are destroyed by such means,” the Commander-in-Chief emphasized.

He added that the staff of the relevant formations is being systematically expanded, training of specialists is being increased, and additional training resources are being created for quality training.

“The system for detecting enemy UAVs is being improved, which increases the efficiency of their destruction,” Syrskyi said.

One of the key steps was the formation of the Command of Unmanned Air Defense Systems within the Air Force of Ukraine.

Syrskyi noted that attention is also being paid to other areas of counteraction.

“We are also developing other areas of counteraction, including the destruction of enemy drones using attack helicopters and light aircraft. We are putting new crews into service. The use of light aircraft allows us to effectively engage Russian UAVs at higher altitudes. Therefore, we are preparing new aircraft crews to perform these tasks,” he said.

The Commander-in-Chief emphasized the importance of technological improvement:

“The joint work of the Defense Forces and manufacturers to improve and introduce new types of interceptor drones continues. We have to speed up the development and introduction of these drones into the troops, because in the context of technological competition, the enemy is constantly improving its means.”

Syrskyi instructed all involved agencies to improve the efficiency of destroying drones and deploy new units equipped with interceptor drones.
