10 February 2025 13:48
Starting February 10, 2025, an updated Basic Combat Training Program (BCTP) will be launched at the training centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The main focus is on the psychological stability of recruits, adaptation to the military environment, and improvement of combat skills. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Ministry of Defense.
The process of improving the previous edition, taking into account the proposals of elite combat military units, was led by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Colonel Oleh Apostol.
As a reminder, starting from November 1, 2024, the period of the CPE was set at 1.5 months. To implement this change, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has developed a corresponding training program. At the end of the year, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine approved it, and on February 10, 2025, the program officially came into force.
According to the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Brigadier General of Justice Serhiy Melnyk, the new program was developed based on the analysis of the combat experience of Ukrainian units.

“The new CPE program is the result of a thorough analysis of the combat experience of our units. We have optimized the training process by removing outdated elements and focusing on practical skills, psychological resilience and other critical functions on the modern battlefield,” he said.
The updated basic training program should improve the effectiveness of recruits, adapt them to the realities of war and prepare them for combat missions in the Armed Forces.
What has changed in the training program
The fifth edition of the program retains the total duration of the course – 1.5 months – but introduces a number of important innovations.
The total amount of training remained unchanged – 372 hours, of which 41 days are allocated for classes, 6 days for rest, and 1 day for administrative issues.

- Psychological training has been strengthened
- The course of first aid was expanded
- Learning the Kropyva software
- Added “marching” training (physical training) to build the endurance of the military.
- Improved shooting exercises – with individual weapons at short distances (fighting in direct contact with the enemy up to 100 meters) and at speed, for which additional ammunition is provided.
Special attention is paid to combat training. The program of shooting exercises has been reviewed and improved by representatives of combat units with real experience in effectively destroying the enemy.
The program also includes training on psychological resilience of the military through watching virtual reality movies “First Battle”.
Four main blocks of training
The training course is divided into four stages:
- Introductory course – 8 hours
- Individual training course – 107 hours
- Training for actions as part of a unit – 209 hours
- Comprehensive tactical training – 48 hours
Upon successful completion of the program, the servicemen will receive a certificate and class qualification in the VOS-100 “Rifleman”. Next, they will receive specialized training in accordance with their combat position.
