He said that, according to operational data, there were no casualties or damage, and emergency services are working at the sites where the debris fell. The head of the region did not specify which objects were targeted and urged residents not to publish footage of the drones flying over or falling.
According to the Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova, the Nevinnomyssky Azot chemical plant, part of the Eurochem fertilizer producer, was hit. The company produces ammonia, urea, melamine, ammonium nitrate, liquid nitrogen fertilizers, acetic acid and vinyl acetate. This year, the plant has been attacked by drones twice – on July 25 and June 14, after which production was temporarily suspended.
Reuters data show that from 2022 to 2024, Nevinnomyssky Azot and Novomoskovsky Azot shipped at least 38 thousand tons of acetic acid and almost 5,000 tons of nitric acid to the Sverdlov plant in Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod region. Reuters noted that these substances are used to produce octogen and hexogen, which are used in the manufacture of artillery shells.
The importance of the enterprise for the Russian military-industrial complex
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, called Nevinnomyssky Azot a critical element of the Russian military-industrial complex. He claimed that the plant annually produces up to 1 million tons of ammonia and more than 1 million tons of ammonium nitrate.
These materials are used in the production of explosives and artillery ammunition. According to Kovalenko, melamine, acetic acid, methanol, and potassium nitrate are also used in the manufacture of high-explosive munitions and rocket charges.
