Meeting between Zelensky and Putin: Vitkoff named the date

22 February 09:15

A meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin may take place in the near future. The participation of a third party, US leader Donald Trump, cannot be ruled out.

According to "Komersant Ukrainian", this was stated by US Special Representative Steve Witkoff in an interview with Fox News.

According to him, this is a “senseless war” in which the parties are fighting over territory and cannot find consensus on this issue.

“Jared (Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law – ed.) and I hope that the proposals we have put on the table will bring the parties together in the next three weeks and possibly lead to a summit between Zelensky and Putin. Perhaps it will be a trilateral meeting with the participation of the president (Trump – ed.). We’ll see,” said the US leader’s special representative.

Vitkoff noted that Trump does not want to meet if he understands that it will not yield any results.

“He has a unique ability to do that. I hope you will hear good news in the coming weeks,” he stressed.

Vitkoff also said that he had been criticized for his frequent meetings with Kremlin leader Putin. In his defense, he said that in order to conclude an agreement, he needed to understand the other side’s position well, which is why he had met with Putin eight times.

Peace talks

As is known, peace talks between Russia, the US, and Ukraine took place in Geneva a few days ago. Progress was allegedly made on the military bloc, concerning the monitoring of the ceasefire, etc., but the political part is still problematic.

The parties have planned to meet again in Geneva in the near future.

As is well known, the most difficult issues in achieving peace are the territories and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The Kremlin insists that Ukraine give up Donbas, even the unoccupied territories, but Kyiv is categorically opposed to this.

Recently, Moscow even stated that it wants the world to recognize Donbas as Russian.
