Yom Kippur

on 12 October, Jews celebrate one of the main holidays – the Day of Judgement or Yom Kippur. It is celebrated on the 10th day of the seventh month, called Tishrei in the Jewish calendar.

It is believed that it is on this day that the Almighty finally decides a person’s fate for the coming year.

For believers, Yom Kippur, or the Day of Judgement, is extremely important, as it is believed that it is at this time that the fate of a person is decided for the next year. There are many prohibitions on this day, such as strict fasting, a ban on washing and showering, wearing genuine leather shoes, and women are not allowed to use cosmetics and perfumes.

On this day, it is customary to wear white clothes to symbolise purity. It is also a day of confession and commemoration of the dead.

World Economist Day and Economist Day in Ukraine

World Economist Day is celebrated on 12 October. It is simply that most often in mid-October, outstanding workers in the industry are awarded the Swedish Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel. The same day is also unofficially celebrated as the Day of the Economist in Ukraine.

The word “economics” first appeared in the 4th century BC. It is a Greek term meaning “the art of housekeeping”. With the development of civilisation, the role of this sphere in human life became increasingly important.

World Music Day

World Music Day or Universal Music Day is celebrated every second Saturday in October, honouring the magic of music in all its forms.

From the dawn of human civilisation to the present day, music has been an integral part of our lives, with the power to unite communities, evoke emotions, motivate and even heal, and promote physical and mental well-being.

The European Day of Organ Donation and Transplantation is celebrated on the second Saturday of October. It was established by the Council of Europe in 1996.

World Arthritis Day

Every year since 1996, on 12 October, the World Arthritis Day is celebrated on the idea of the WHO.

Among the causes of disability, diseases of the rheumatological spectrum are among the top ones. Approximately one in 100 people on the planet suffers from arthritis, and about 6 years after the diagnosis of the disease, 50% of patients become unable to work and their lives are accompanied by pain.

The purpose of this World Day is to draw public attention to this disease and the problems of patients, and to raise awareness. The development of arthritis can be prevented. To do this, it is important to take care of your health: eat a balanced diet, engage in physical activity, and protect your joints from excessive stress.

What is the church holiday on 12 October?

On 12 October, the Church commemorates the holy martyrs Prova, Tarakh and Andronicus. They died for their faith in the early fourth century. All three were sentenced to death during the reign of the Roman Emperor Diocletian and killed because of their Christian confession.

They were subjected to numerous brutal tortures, including beatings, burns, and piercing their bodies with heated rods. When the men were thrown to the animals, they refused to touch them, so Prova, Tarakh and Andronik were eventually executed by the sword.
