Lawyer Dmytro Yovdiy told the story of a woman who is raising a child on her own from a father who died at the front. After her husband’s death, she was unable to receive financial compensation because the child was not officially registered in his name in the registry office. The military unit and the TCC immediately refused to help her, saying that she was “nobody,” "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

  • we requested the necessary documents from the military unit and other institutions;
  • conducted a DNA examination;
  • proved the fact of paternity of the deceased soldier in court;
  • obtained official recognition of the child as the child of the deceased soldier.

As a result, the woman received compensation from the Ministry of Defense in the amount of UAH 15 million. In addition, the child was granted a survivor’s pension and was granted the status of a family member of the deceased, which opens up access to various benefits.

The lawyer also emphasized that it is possible to receive legal payments even in cases where

  • the child was born after the death of the father;
  • the woman previously received assistance as a single mother;
  • the father was not listed on the birth certificate.

The lawyer urged:

“Don’t be afraid to fight for your rights. If you are raising a child from a deceased soldier, even out of wedlock, contact professionals – they will help you get the help you deserve.
