The high-tech sector, including electronics and applied mechanics, is experiencing a serious shortage of qualified personnel. This was stated by Olga Nagornyuk, Ajax Systems’ manager of educational programs, during the discussion forum for educators and employers “You can’t let go of young people.” She spoke about the company’s approach to working with young professionals.

The trend of staff shortages has worsened since the outbreak of war due to migration and the growing number of startups in Military Technologies, which has increased the demand for highly skilled engineers.

“Finding an experienced electronics developer has become many times more difficult. That’s why we are less focused on direct hiring and more invested in cooperation with educational institutions, including universities,” said Nagornyuk.

Three steps of Ajax Systems

  1. Laboratories and practical spaces – the company creates an environment with equipment and materials where students can implement theoretical ideas and build prototypes.
  2. A team of teachers – university specialists work in the laboratory on a part-time basis, receiving compensation for additional work and improving the quality of practical training for students.
  3. Support and mentoring – the company’s engineers help formulate projects for students, determine the required level of qualifications, and prepare future candidates for the labor market.

Nahorniuk emphasized that such investments allow not only to fill the staff shortage but also to educate specialists who meet the modern requirements of the industry, as well as to increase the level of practical training of students.

“We are investing in the future of our engineers and the industry as a whole. It’s not just about the company’s needs, but also about the development of education and professional standards in Ukraine,” the expert summarized.

Thus, Ukraine’s high-tech industries are experiencing an acute shortage of qualified personnel, which has worsened with the outbreak of war and the growth of startups in Military Technologies. Ajax Systems invests in the practical education of students by creating laboratories, engaging teachers, and providing mentoring to train specialists of the appropriate level. This approach shows that strategic investments in education and cooperation with universities can not only reduce staff losses but also create a new generation of engineers ready to work in Ukraine.
