$400 million in military aid from the US Congress to Ukraine will be enough for 3 days

The defense bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives still includes $400 million in support for Ukraine, despite the growing Republican opposition and attempts to cut military aid to our country. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to The New York Times.

The vote on Ukraine was not straightforward. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green of the Georgia Republican Party submitted a proposal to cut funding for Ukraine. However, both Republicans and Democrats voted against this attempt to cut aid.

In addition, the lawmakers included a requirement that the Pentagon report to Congress on any plans to cancel or suspend military aid to Ukraine that Congress has approved. This decision was a response to the actions of the US Department of Defense in the summer, when it suspended aid to Ukraine without warning lawmakers.

Thus, Congress is trying to restore its oversight function over the process of providing military aid.

As noted by Suspilne, this refers to funding through the Security Assistance to Ukraine (USAI) program, where the US Department of Defense orders new weapons from manufacturers specifically for Ukraine, rather than giving ready-made equipment from its arsenals.

The passage of this bill demonstrates that bipartisan support for Ukraine in the U.S. Congress remains strong, despite growing skepticism among some Republicans. The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.

Certainly, this money can buy some good weapons, but it is not enough for even one Patriot battery.

It is worth noting that, according to the Ministry of Finance, Ukraine allocates 5-6 billion hryvnias to the security and defense sector every day. Given this scale of spending, the US $400 million (about 16.8 billion hryvnias at the current exchange rate) would cover the country’s needs for about 3 days.
