Nuclear strategy: Ukraine prepares energy sector for peak loads

The winter of 2025-2026 in Ukraine promises to be difficult again after the massive Russian shelling of energy infrastructure in 2024. In this regard, the preparation of nuclear power units for full capacity operation becomes critical for stable energy supply, which is the main prerequisite for further economic recovery and the supply of industry and business, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing information from the Strategic Communications Directorate of Energoatom JSC.
That is why the head of Energoatom, Petro Kotin, held a working meeting during his visit to the South Ukrainian NPP to discuss the current state of the repair campaign, the results of activities for the first half of 2025 and plans for the development of the Atomenergomash structural unit.
This repair campaign is being implemented in accordance with the schedules approved by the Ministry of Energy – without disruptions and with strict adherence to deadlines.
Preparedness for peak load: what has been done
1. Fuel reserves for the entire season. The company has a sufficient stock of nuclear fuel, has signed long-term contracts with uranium enrichment and conversion suppliers, and continues to produce components for nuclear fuel in Ukraine.
2. Modernization and repair of power units. Fuel reloading and preventive maintenance are underway at all units, which will allow them to reach maximum capacity in the fall.
3. Development of Atomenergomash. The expansion of the branch’s capacities is aimed at promptly restoring equipment, reducing downtime and localizing component failures within the country.
The head of Energoatom once again noted the important role of Ukrainian nuclear engineers, as the professionalism and high qualification of the personnel makes it possible to reduce the time of work and return power units to operation faster.
Petro Kotin also presented the Company’s specialists with awards from the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, diplomas from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and awards from Energoatom for their significant contribution to the development and maintenance of the energy sector under martial law, conscientious performance of professional duties and high professionalism.

It is worth noting that Energoatom acts strategically: thanks to the renewal of power units, modernization of divisions and human resources, the company is preparing for maximum generation in winter. This will ensure

All of this is the foundation for energy independence and resilience of the Ukrainian economy in a challenging geopolitical environment.
