Emergency blackouts: Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy sector again
8 November 06:24
The Russian occupation forces have once again launched massive attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities. As a result, emergency power outages have been introduced in a number of regions, which will continue until the situation in the power system stabilizes. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Where exactly were the attacks?
Energy facilities in Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia regions came under fire.
Some of the equipment was damaged as a result of the attacks, which led to a decrease in power and interruptions in electricity supply.
How the energy sector is responding
Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk said that once the security situation is stabilized, emergency crews and rescuers will immediately begin repair and restoration work. Their main task is to restore power supply to the affected communities as soon as possible.
“We have a clear action plan, and despite the difficulties, Ukraine will have electricity and heat this winter,” assured Ms. Hrynchuk.
She thanked all the specialists working to restore the networks and urged citizens to remain calm and trust official sources of information.
How long will the blackouts last?
The Ministry of Energy has clarified that emergency blackouts will remain in place until the power system is fully stabilized.
So far, the schedules of power supply restrictions for the population are in effect throughout the country – approximately until 21:00.
What it means for consumers:
- outages may be uneven across regions, depending on the load on the grid;
- critical infrastructure (hospitals, water and heat supply facilities) will be connected first;
- ukrainians are advised to use electrical appliances sparingly, especially in the evening.
