For the second week in a row, prices for autogas in Ukraine have shown a steady rise, which is causing concern among drivers. Energy expert Gennadiy Ryabtsev said in an exclusive commentary to "Komersant Ukrainian" that such price increases may continue in the coming months.
As of 14 October, average prices at the largest petrol stations rose by 3.1%, from UAH 34.84 per litre to UAH 35.92 per litre.
Ryabtsev explains that the upward trend in autogas prices will continue in the coming months.
“By the new year, if we take into account today’s price, autogas will add a few more hryvnias,” the expert predicts.
According to him, we should expect changes in the ratio between the price of petrol and liquefied petroleum gas: “Most likely, the ratio between the retail price of petrol and LPG will be 1.3 to one, rather than 2 to one, as it was before.”
According to Ryabtsev, one of the key reasons for this rapid increase is the rise in the excise tax on autogas.
“This is the result of an abnormally large increase in the excise tax on this type of fuel,” the expert added.
It should be noted that new excise taxes on fuel were introduced in Ukraine on 1 September. Experts estimate that petrol will rise by about UAH 1.50 per litre, diesel by UAH 1.95 per litre and autogas by UAH 5.8 per litre.
