BES uncovers illegal gas stations in Kyiv: fuel and equipment seized

22 October 11:16

In Kyiv, detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine (BES) shut down two gas stations that sold fuel without the appropriate permits and documents of its origin. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the BES.

As part of the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers conducted authorized searches at the locations of the gas stations. During the investigation, about 4.5 tons of fuel were seized, as well as four fuel dispensers used for the illegal sale of excisable products.

According to the BES, the gas station was operating in gross violation of the current legislation: the fuel had no quality confirmation and could pose a threat to both car engines and the environment.

The pre-trial investigation under Art. 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal manufacture, storage, sale or transportation of excisable goods – is currently underway. Expert examinations have been ordered, and the circle of persons involved in the organization of the illegal scheme is being established.

The investigation was conducted with the participation of specialists from the State Ecological Inspectorate and under the supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

The equipment is being dismantled, and the fuel is being poured into special tanks for further storage and analysis.

Law enforcement officials emphasize that combating fuel trafficking is a priority, as such schemes not only cause losses to the budget but also pose risks to public safety.
