In the village of Lashki (Podkarpackie Voivodeship), unattended containers with anti-aircraft guns and ammunition were found on the territory of a local flying club, Polish radio station RMF24 reports , "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to investigators, the weapons belonged to a private company that had an official permit for arms trade and planned to deliver the systems to Ukraine. They were initially stored in secure warehouses near the border, but later left unattended.
Information about the unknown containers appeared earlier in a TV Republika story. On the order of the Prosecutor’s Office in Przemyśl, officers of the Central Bureau of Police Investigations (CBŚP) arrived at the scene. After inspecting the area, the security forces confirmed the presence of anti-aircraft guns and ammunition. Proceedings have been initiated for improper handling of weapons and ammunition.
The spokesman for the Minister-Coordinator of Special Services, Jacek Dobrzyński, confirmed that the weapons belonged to a private company. The Ministry of National Defense of Poland also clarified that the containers are not the property of the Polish army, and everything found is now under the protection of the relevant services.
In a statement on June 4, the Ministry of National Defense called for any questions regarding the incident to be addressed to the Ministry of Interior and Administration or the District Prosecutor’s Office in Rzeszow.
Poland has been one of Ukraine’s key partners in military assistance since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The total value of military support provided by Warsaw exceeds 4.5 billion euros, which is more than 4.9% of the country’s GDP – the highest figure among all donor countries.
The main areas of Poland’s military assistance to Ukraine:
Tanks and armored vehicles
More than 240 tanks, including 280 T-72s of various modifications, 60 PT-91 Twardy and 14 Leopard 2A4s.
About 100 Rosomak armored personnel carriers, which are actively used by Ukrainian mechanized brigades.
250 BWP-1 infantry fighting vehicles and 9 BRDM-2 reconnaissance vehicles.
Aviation and drones
14 MiG-29 fighters and 12 Mi-24 helicopters.
Hundreds of strike and reconnaissance drones, as well as anti-aircraft missile systems, including Piorun MANPADS.
Artillery and Ammunition
More than 100 million units of ammunition of various types and calibers.
More than a hundred self-propelled artillery systems, including Krab and Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems.
30 BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket systems.
Training and logistics
Poland has organized or co-organized more than 500 exercises for the Ukrainian armed forces. To date, about 25,000 Ukrainian military personnel have been trained, including 14,500 within the framework of the EU mission EUMAM.
In January 2025, the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Center (JATEC) will open in Bydgoszcz, which will be the first official NATO-Ukraine institution.
Commercial procurement
In addition to free aid, Ukraine has also purchased weapons worth about 800 million euros from Poland. The purchases include 18 Krab self-propelled artillery systems, 60 MT-LBs, 19 Dzik II armored vehicles, 70 2C1 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems, 89 82 mm mortars, 4 Grad multiple rocket launchers, 39,280 C-8 unguided rockets, and 34 Piorun man-portable air defense systems.
Thanks to this large-scale support, Poland has become not only a strategic rear for Ukraine, but also a leader among NATO countries in providing military assistance.
