The Security Service of Ukraine conducted a unique special operation that resulted in the third attack on the Crimean Bridge. This time, it was done underwater. This was reported by the SBU press service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The operation lasted several months. Special service agents mined the bridge pylons, and on June 3 at 04:44 the first explosive device was activated.
A charge of 1100 kg of TNT equivalent was detonated underwater. As a result of the explosion, the supports of the piers at the bottom level were seriously damaged. According to the SBU, the bridge is in a state of emergency.
“There is no place for any illegal object of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine. The Crimean bridge is a legitimate target, especially given its use for enemy military logistics. Crimea is Ukraine, and every manifestation of occupation will be met with a tough response,” said SBU Head Vasyl Malyuk.
Russia has been building the Crimean bridge across the Kerch Strait since 2016 and opened it in 2018-2020. Russia has been actively using it to transfer troops and weapons to the temporarily occupied peninsula.
This is the third attack on the bridge:
on October 8, 2022, a truck explosion caused a span to collapse and set off a fire.
july 17, 2023 – SBU surface drones destroyed one of the spans.
june 3, 2025 – an underwater attack by the SBU severely damaged the bridge’s piers.
