The Garlic Business: Up to 200% Profit and Less Risk Than Most Vegetables

Interest in garlic is growing among Ukrainian farmers—a crop capable of yielding three times the initial investment and outperforming traditional vegetables in a number of metrics, writes "Komersant Ukrainian", citing EastFruit.

Serhiy Parashchenko, founder of Chysty Produkt LLC, spoke about this in a comment to Planator magazine. According to him, in some projects, every hryvnia invested in garlic production yields two more—meaning profitability reaches 200%.

Garlic’s appeal is also due to its agronomic characteristics. The crop matures earlier than most vegetables, tolerates spring frosts well, and requires virtually no irrigation. Since harvesting takes place before the peak of summer heat, the plant effectively avoids drought stress. After harvest, the field is cleared early—the farmer has time to plant the next crop in the same season.

According to Parashchenko, it is the combination of early market entry with relatively stable market conditions that makes garlic particularly attractive to farmers—especially given the significant price fluctuations in other vegetable-growing segments.
