German defence concern Rheinmetall will build a new ammunition plant to meet the needs of Germany and Ukraine. The concern’s CEO Armin Papperger said this in an interview with Bild, according to the publication
“Military procurement is undergoing positive changes. Last year, Rheinmetall alone received orders and framework agreements from the German government worth more than €10 billion, covering both the needs of the Bundeswehr and Ukraine,”
said the head of Rheinmetall.
According to him, this amount is expected to increase to at least €15 billion this year.
“The speed of our achievements is impressive: what used to take several years can now be implemented in just a few months. We plan to quickly build a new ammunition plant in Germany to ensure strategic security of supply.”
– added the Rheinmetall CEO.
Last month, Germany also announced the delivery of a second Patriot air defence system to Ukraine.
Additionally, on 5 January, Germany announced a military aid package for Ukraine, which included ammunition and missiles for air defence systems, as well as the Skynex self-propelled anti-aircraft system.
Last week, it was announced that Germany would provide Ukraine with drones, armoured personnel carriers and Leopard tank shells.
