Beetroot breaks price records: last year’s crop is getting more expensive, new crop does not save it yet

The Ukrainian market is experiencing a record high price for last year’s beets, despite the growing supply of new crops. This is reported by the analytical resource EastFruit, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to experts, last year’s beets are now sold at 25-33 UAH/kg ($0.60-0.80/kg), which is on average 21% more expensive than in the same period in 2023. This price has been maintained for several months in a row.
This is due to the high demand for beets, as well as the limited supply of the new harvest, which has just started to enter the market.
Although the 2024 beet sales season started as usual, the price of beets ranges from 32-40 UAH/kg (USD 0.77-0.96/kg), which is even more expensive than last year’s stocks.
Analysts note that although prices for the new harvest are gradually decreasing, we should not expect a sharp decline in prices, as beet stocks from last season are scarce.
Thus, despite the start of the new season, the market is still on the edge of a deficit. This maintains high prices and limits the ability of buyers to save money on the basic vegetable.
