After a thorough investigation and verification of new facts, the Security Service of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigation have announced that the current MP of Ukraine is suspected of treason. The parliamentarian, who has already been in custody since November 2024 for cooperating with the aggressor country, has once again come under investigation, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing a post on the SBU Telegram channel.
The investigation materials show that the MP’s activities caused significant damage to Ukraine’s national security and defense capabilities. Numerous checks and analysis of the content of his statements confirmed that he cooperated with Russia not only before the full-scale invasion, but also after February 24, 2022, i.e. after the fighting had broken out across Ukraine.
In particular, the MP systematically spread Kremlin narratives designed to undermine the morale of Ukrainians and improve the information and psychological situation in favor of the occupiers. In his appeals, the MP called on his fellow citizens to lay down their arms and stop resisting, thereby helping to realize the tasks of the Russian Armed Forces in the temporarily occupied and frontline territories.
An independent examination commissioned by investigators officially confirmed that the MP’s statements contained elements of criminal acts. In particular, the damage to the defense capability and information security of Ukraine. The experts drew attention to the systematic nature of such cooperation and the fact that it took place during the period of active hostilities.
Based on the collected materials and expert conclusions, the MP was additionally notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – “High treason committed under martial law”. This is the most severe punishment that the offender can face: he may receive life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The MP is currently in custody. He was notified of the new suspicion after thoroughly verified facts of cooperation with the aggressor. The investigation is still ongoing, which will allow us to check all the connections, contacts and sources of funding for the MP’s activities.
It should be noted that the SBU’s post does not publish the personal data of the suspected MP. However, a number of Ukrainian media outlets report that it is Yevhen Shevchenko.
