An 18-year-old grandmaster from India became the world chess champion

Dommaraju Gukesh of India defeated Ding Lizhen of China and took away the world chess championship title. This is reported on the website of the International Chess Federation, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

On Thursday, December 12, in Singapore, Gukesh defeated Ding Lizhen in the 14th game and won the match for the world chess crown.

It seemed that the final game was headed for a draw, and tiebreaks were unavoidable, but the champion Ding Liren made a huge mistake on the fifty-fifth move and was forced to give up after three moves. The final result of the match was 7.5-6.5 in favor of Gukesh

18-year-old Dommaraju Gukesh became the 18th world chess champion.

He became the youngest titleholder after Ruslan Ponomaryov. The Indian won the World Championship at the age of 18 years and 197 days. Ponomaryov became the champion in 2002 at the age of 18 years and 104 days.
