Another rise in price: how tomato prices are changing in Ukraine
27 October 05:19
The limited supply of greenhouse tomatoes on the Ukrainian market allows local factories to actively raise prices for these products, according to analysts of the EastFruit project, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
It is worth noting that the rise in prices for these vegetables in Ukraine has been going on for the third week in a row.
According to the daily monitoring of the project, Ukrainian greenhouse plants are currently offering tomatoes for sale at 80-90 UAH/kg ($1.91-2.15/kg), which is on average 14% more expensive than at the end of last week.
According to market players, the supply of greenhouse tomatoes from local plants is currently quite small and unstable. Thus, a number of farms have already announced the completion of sales of current turnover. In other stationary greenhouses, crop ripening has slowed down significantly due to the cold snap, and supplies from greenhouses have stopped altogether. Moreover, it has not yet been possible to compensate for the lack of supply of local greenhouse vegetables with imported products.
It should be added that due to the rise in prices, greenhouse tomato prices in Ukraine are already 22% higher on average than at the end of October 2024. At the same time, producers intend to continue to raise prices in this segment, provided that the current sales rates are maintained, explaining their decision by the limited supply of products from local plants.
