Another increase in cucumber prices in Ukraine: what is behind it
1 February 01:14
Stable high demand for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine and a significant reduction in supplyof this product are driving up prices, according to analysts at EastFruit, as reported by Komersant.
Currently, only a few Ukrainian factories are selling greenhouse vegetables, while the main supply of this product on the domestic market consists exclusively of imported cucumbers from Turkey.
Currently, sellers are offering cucumbers for sale in the range of 120-150 UAH/kg ($2.81-3.51/kg), which is on average 10% more expensive than a week earlier.
Market operators attribute the rise in prices for greenhouse cucumbers to higher prices for this product in Turkey, which is traditionally the main supplier of greenhouse vegetables to Ukraine in the winter. At the same time, this week, imported cucumbers entered the domestic market in small batches, and many wholesale companies refuse to work with imported cucumbers due to the low quality of this product.
It should be noted that today, greenhouse cucumbers on the Ukrainian market are sold at an average price that is 61% higher than at the end of January 2025. However, many market participants agree that this price situation in this segment is temporary. They do not rule out that next week the situation in the greenhouse cucumber segment will stabilize after the supply of Turkish products normalizes.
