Chernihiv dog Lilu became a star of canine therapy: she helps children and veterans

COLLAR, a Ukrainian company based in Chernihiv and known as a manufacturer of pet products, not only creates innovative products but also actively supports social initiatives. In addition to helping stray animals and developing sports, the company has become one of the key drivers of canine therapy in Ukraine.
Since 2011, such classes have been held at the Renaissance Center in Chernihiv for children with cerebral palsy, autism, and other special needs. Thanks to the Cane Corso dogs Nika and Lilu, more than 2000 children have received psychological and physical support, which has a proven positive effect.
Canine-assisted therapy is a type of treatment and rehabilitation that uses the positive influence of specially trained dogs to improve the psychosocial and physiological state of people in need. It is based on interaction with a therapy dog. This type of therapy helps to improve mood, reduce stress, develop social skills, and improve physical condition.
At the initiative of COLLAR, psychologist Antonina Vdovychenko issued guidelines for the use of canine therapy for professionals, based on her 14 years of experience working with therapy dogs.
In 2024, canine-assisted therapy became available in Chernihiv’s kindergartens and the Mary’s School Christian Center, and in 2025, for veterans and hospital patients. Therapy sessions include exercises to restore motor skills and help overcome psychological difficulties.
The main character of these meetings is the dog Lilu. Her gentle presence is not just comforting, but gives a sense of calm, safety and acceptance. She is not just a pet, but a real helper on the way to recovery.
This example shows that dogs can be not only friends, but also real saviors.
