People’s deputy Maryana Bezugla still remains the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine’s Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, despite her odious behavior and the already six-month epic with her exclusion from the committee.
"Komersant Ukrainian" asked for a comment the former member of the “Servant of the People” and now a non-factional People’s Deputy Lyudmila Buimister, who was expelled from the SN faction in October 2021. The deputy hinted that Bezugla can be “covered up” at the highest level. To the question why Maryana Bezugla is not excluded from the leadership of the committee, Buimister answered as follows:
“I have one assumption: probably for the same reason why the General Prosecutor’s Office refused me to open proceedings under Article 114-1, – obstruction of the legal activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, – which I filed after the very first attempts of Mrs. Maryana to exercise her powers and illegal influence on the situation in the Armed Forces during the war”
Buimister harshly criticizes the parliament’s inability to resolve this issue:
“That’s why I think it’s a shame. The whole world is already looking at this – the inability to make one simple procedural decision.”
She also expressed concern about the efficiency of the Verkhovna Rada:
“And the only thing this tells me is that somewhere in our country, VR does not work at key points. Because we have a huge demand from society, and the question is: where are all these decisions made?”
Buimister emphasized the lack of political will, because she believes that the claims against deputy Bezuglai are more than enough to remove her from the leadership of the committee:
“Because there are already many applications to the committee, to the OGP. The lack of political will is obvious.”
Scandals with Bezugla
Bezugla is known for her criticism of the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny.Back in November, she stated that the military leadership of Ukraine “must leave” because the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhnyi allegedly “failed to provide a plan for 2024.” Against the background of rumors about the dismissal of the Commander-in-Chief, the Nardepka resorted to accusations of alcohol abuse and blackmail.
On January 5, the Committee on National Security of the Verkhovna Rada, headed by her colleague from the “Servant of the People” faction, Zavitnevich, decided to recall Bezugla from the position of deputy chairman of the Committee.
Bezugla stated that she does not need a weak faction and party in the war. On January 11, the People’s Deputy filed a statement to withdraw from the party and the “Servant of the People” faction. The Verkhovna Rada officially adopted this statement on January 12.At the same time, Bezugla noted that she will continue to support the president’s initiatives, but does not want to have joint obligations with the people’s deputies of the faction “who stick a knife in the back.”
On February 7, Bezugla was expelled from the “Servant of the People” party.
On July 22, the committee voted again to exclude Bezugla from its composition, but this requires the decision of the entire session hall.
