Four-day work week in Ukraine: when it may be introduced and what it means for employees

Ukraine may officially introduce a four-day working week under certain conditions.

MP Danylo Hetmantsev, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, told Novosti.LIVE, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

In his opinion, there are several ways: either to keep the 40-hour work week, but for 4 days, or to have an optional agreement between the employee and the employer on other terms.

“This cannot be made mandatory during the war. Still, the employer should discuss this issue with the labor collective,” he added.

However, if the business and employees agree on the conditions, such a mode of operation may be introduced during martial law.

The MP emphasized that a four-day working week is in place in Belgium and Ireland, and that a similar initiative is being discussed in a number of other countries.
