Will there be electricity for the New Year: explanation of the State Energy Supervision
30 December 14:01
On New Year’s Eve, Ukraine is likely to have the usual schedules of hourly power outages.
According to RBC-Ukraine, the head of the State Energy Supervision Service, Anatoliy Zamulko, said this during a telethon, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to him, experts are currently cautious about any forecasts, as the situation in the power system remains vulnerable due to possible attacks from Russia and lower temperatures.
At the same time, during the period of reduced nighttime load, power companies may partially increase electricity supply, but the situation will depend on security risks.
“If we reach our normal schedules with the temperature dropping and with the available capacities and they are predictably and correctly applied, this will be the most acceptable option,” Zamulko said.
He explained that New Year’s Eve traditionally sees a decline in electricity consumption, which may allow for a temporary increase in electricity supply. At the same time, the official emphasized that final decisions will depend on the enemy’s actions in the coming days.
“We do not know how the enemy will act from Wednesday to Thursday. And if we come to the usual predicted schedules of restrictions, this will probably be a fairly correct question and the right decision for today,” the head of the State Energy Supervision concluded.
Difficult situation in the energy sector after Russian strikes
According to Oleksiy Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Recovery and Minister of Community and Territorial Development, the government is working on a solution so that Kyiv residents who were without power for more than eight hours during emergency outages are not immediately transferred to scheduled blackouts.
At the same time, the situation in Kyiv region remains difficult. Vyshgorod has been without power for four days.
In addition, as of today, Ukrenergo has instructed to introduce hourly power outage schedules in most regions of Ukraine, as well as power restrictions for industrial consumers.
The reason for these measures is the consequences of Russian missile and drone attacks on energy infrastructure.
