The General Staff of the Armed Forces is satisfied with the current pace of mobilisation. If this pace continues, it will be possible to start discussing the process of demobilisation at the legislative level, MP Roman Kostenko told Ukrayinska Pravda in a commentary, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
“The General Staff is now really satisfied with the pace of mobilisation. They are satisfied with the number of people mobilised, which even exceeds their expectations. They hope that this trend will continue,” Kostenko said.
According to the MP and secretary of the Defence Committee, if the positive trend continues, a draft law on demobilisation could be submitted to the Rada in October this year.
“If by the end of the summer we see that they are maintained and increase, then it will be possible to develop and submit a draft law on demobilisation to the Rada,” Kostenko said.
Demobilisation in Ukraine
It is worth noting that in April 2024, for the first time since the start of the large-scale invasion, Ukraine began demobilising conscripts.
According to Decree 149/2024 of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, published on the website of the President of Ukraine, after demobilisation, they become persons liable for military service in the reserve. The decree refers to the military of the Armed Forces, other military formations and employees of the State Special Transport Service who served beyond the prescribed time limit due to martial law imposed in connection with Russia’s invasion. Photos and videos of conscripts being discharged began to appear on the Internet, as reported by MP Oleksiy Honcharenko.
Earlier, on 23 February, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the presidential draft law No. 11035, which establishes the rules for the discharge of conscripts during martial law. “319 MPs voted in favour.
The term of service of conscripts was automatically extended for the duration of martial law. Thus, the Verkhovna Rada allowed the Supreme Commander-in-Chief to discharge conscripts into the reserve by decree.
Conscripts whose term of service has expired but who wish to remain will be able to do so by signing a contract. Others will be demobilised.
