One of the candidates for the post of Prosecutor General is the current Deputy Minister of Defense Serhiy Melnyk. This was reported by MP Oleksiy Honcharenko on his Telegram channel on February 18.
The parliamentarian did not disclose any details, and named his own sources as informants.
In this way, the MP actually confirmed the information of "Komersant Ukrainian", which, citing informed sources , named Serhiy Melnyk as a candidate for the post of Prosecutor General of Ukraine from the point of view of the Presidential Office. According to sources, the brigadier general has already successfully passed an interview at the Presidential Office. In addition, as the source adds, “there is already the necessary number of votes in support of his candidacy in the Verkhovna Rada.”
In particular, Melnyk is called a “professional and experienced manager,” as well as a “decent and worthy” person who has no “dirty scandalous stories” behind him.
In addition, he is given a good characterization based on the results of his short but productive work in the Defense Ministry as Umerov’s deputy.
Brigadier General Serhiy Melnyk (call sign “General Marcel”) was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense in October 2024. Prior to that, he was in charge of the defense of the city of Kharkiv since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine.
Melnyk graduated from Kharkiv Military University and Yaroslav Mudryi National Law Academy. He has been serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 1994. Since 1999, he served in the Air Defense Brigades.
As Deputy Minister of Defense, Melnyk is currently in charge of military education and science, protection of servicemen’s rights, recruitment, training, physical education, humanitarian support and social support.
Among his initiatives in the humanitarian area is the introduction of the “Wounded Person’s Package”, which is to be given to every soldier who enters a medical facility in 2025.
