the “Crimean parliament” is ready to raise the issue of recognizing the transfer of Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR in 1954 as illegal again as soon as the right moment arises. This was stated by the “chairman of the Crimean parliament” Vladimir Konstantinov in an interview with Russian media at the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF), "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“We have put forward such an initiative and are ready to repeat it. We believe this issue is very correct from a historical point of view,” he said.
Konstantinov is convinced that the legitimacy of Crimea’s return to Russia in 2014 can be proved based on archival documents. He emphasized that the thesis of the illegal transfer of Crimea is often used, but it must be supported by evidence.
“The decision was made at that time in a completely unclear manner. All the constitutional norms of the Soviet Union were violated,” the parliamentarian added.
The transfer of the Crimean region from the RSFSR to the Ukrainian SSR was formalized by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 19, 1954.
