since the beginning of the year, 20,000 Ukrainians have used vouchers to acquire a new profession or speciality with government support. The state has financed their training for a total of UAH 223 million. This was announced in a telegram by Danylo Hetmantsev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

“Is it a lot or a little?” the MP asks and explains.

‘On the one hand, 20,000 – given the significant unemployment that the NBU predicts at around 14% and the huge shortage of staff, which is often mentioned during meetings by business owners – is not so much. But on the other hand, 20,000 people have been able to improve their competitiveness in the labour market, learn new skills or update their previously acquired knowledge, which makes it possible to find a job faster. In the first nine and a half months of 2024, we managed to exceed the figures for the whole of last year, when 18,000 people were trained,” said Danylo Hetmantsev.

How it works

Applicants for vouchers have the opportunity to choose their own speciality, profession and place of study.

Then they have to inform the State Employment Service of their choice by filling out an application online or by contacting its numerous offices in person.

Within 90 days of receiving a voucher (currently worth UAH 30,280 – if the cost of training is higher, either the person or their potential employer will have to pay the difference), they must sign an agreement with an educational institution or other enterprises, institutions and organisations that provide training and have the appropriate licence, and start training.

Danylo Hetmantsev also said that 155 professions and specialities in demand in the labour market, including IT, construction, transport, education, medicine, agriculture, social services, etc., are currently available for training with state support.
