A proposal to impeach US President Donald Trump has been submitted to the House of Representatives. This was reported by Michigan Congressman Sri Thanedar on the social network X, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

The initiator was Michigan Congressman Sri Thanedar.

“I have introduced articles on the impeachment of President Trump. When Trump ignores the Constitution, Congress and the courts, he is not fighting for America. He is destroying it and jeopardizing our democracy,” Tanedar said.

He clarified that he had filed seven articles of impeachment accusing Trump of a number of serious violations.

Among the charges is the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who, according to Tanedar, was mistakenly sent to El Salvador.

The congressman also accuses Trump of illegally cutting budget spending on certain government agencies through the Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE) without congressional approval.

Among other grounds for impeachment, Tanedar cited Trump’s aggressive tariff policy that has damaged the international economy, pressure on the media, violation of the First Amendment of the US Constitution (guarantee of freedom of speech), bribery, interference with the courts, and illegal collection of personal data.

“Article Seven is a tyrannical abuse of power. Trump is trying to concentrate unlimited power and destroy the constitutional limits of the presidency. In our country, we have presidents, not kings. This is not just a violation – it is an impeachable offense,” Tanedar said.

How the impeachment process works in the United States

Impeachment is the process of formally accusing a US president of serious crimes, such as treason, bribery, or other serious offenses.

Impeachment proceedings can be initiated only by the House of Representatives of the US Congress and only on the recommendation of the Judiciary Committee.

To approve articles of impeachment (each article brings charges against the president), a majority vote of the House of Representatives is required. The process then moves to the Senate, where a trial will take place, presided over by the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court.

At least 67 votes out of 100 are needed to remove the president.

Donald Trump: two impeachments without a conviction

the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, went down in history as the only American leader to be impeached twice. In both cases, the process ended without legal consequences.

First impeachment – 2019

The first impeachment was initiated in 2019 after a complaint from a whistleblower. According to him, during a telephone conversation in July of that year, Trump pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to launch an investigation against then US presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son.

In response, House Democrats accused Trump of abusing his power and obstructing the work of Congress.

on December 18, 2019, he became the third president in US history to be impeached.

However, on February 5, 2020, the Republican-majority Senate acquitted him of all charges.

Second impeachment – 2021

The second impeachment took place after the events of January 6, 2021, when Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol during the certification of the presidential election results. On the same day, Trump spoke to the crowd and called for “fighting with all our might,” which, according to the prosecution, was incitement to rebellion.

on January 13, the House of Representatives impeached him, just a week before the end of his presidential term. However, on February 13, the Senate acquitted Trump for the second time.
