The bodies of 1,000 more victims, including servicemen, have been returned to Ukraine as part of the next stage of repatriation. This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The return of the bodies was made possible thanks to the joint work of representatives of the Headquarters, as well as other structures of the security and defense sector of Ukraine.
All the bodies will be handed over to law enforcement investigators and experts of the Interior Ministry for identification and necessary expertise, the headquarters said.
According to pro-Kremlin media, Ukraine handed over 19 bodies of dead rf military personnel to the Russian side as part of this repatriation.
Repatriation after the Istanbul agreements
This is not the first large-scale stage of the return of bodies. In particular:
- on June 16, 1245 bodies were returned to Ukraine;
- within two days before that – another 2,400 bodies of Ukrainian dead;
- earlier it was possible to return 1, 212 bodies of fallen military personnel.
In addition, based on the results of the negotiations in Istanbul, there was an exchange of prisoners in the format of “one thousand for one thousand”, which was held in three stages from May 23 to 25. As part of the agreements, groups of young, seriously wounded and sick defenders were returned to Ukraine.
