Donald Trump continues to fight against windmills

US President-elect Donald Trump has criticized the British government’s energy policy, demanding that the country “open up” the outdated North Sea oil and gas basin and get rid of wind farms. This was reported by Reuters, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The publication reminds that the North Sea is one of the oldest offshore oil and gas basins in the world, where production has been steadily declining since the beginning of the millennium. At the same time, the North Sea has become one of the world’s largest offshore wind regions.

“The UK is making a very big mistake. Open the North Sea. Get rid of the windmills!” Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.

As you know, Donald Trump, who is skeptical of changes in climate policy, has long been opposed to wind farms.

What is the position of the British government?

The Labor government of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who won last year’s election, has promised to build a low-carbon economy in Britain.

In October, the British government announced that it would increase the tax on excess profits for oil and gas producers in the North Sea from 35% to 38% and extend the tax for one year. The government wants to use oil and gas revenues to raise funds for renewable energy projects.

How Britain reacted to Trump’s call

When asked about Trump’s remarks, a British government spokesman said the government would continue to prioritize “fair and orderly change in the North Sea, in line with the government’s climate and legal obligations.”

“We need to replace our reliance on volatile fossil fuel markets with clean, British-controlled home-grown electricity,” the spokesman added. According to him, this is the best way to protect those who pay the bills and increase the country’s energy independence.
