In 2025, the National Bank of Ukraine’s special account to support the Defense Forces received almost UAH 97 billion, several times more than a year earlier. In December alone, the account received about UAH 20 billion, which was one of the highest monthly figures since the beginning of the full-scale war.
This was reported by the NBU press service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
What is known
The NBU’s special account was opened on February 24, 2022, the day of the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. It has become one of the key channels for raising funds for defense needs, from weapons and ammunition to medical care.
By the end of 2025, the amount of revenues was almost six times higher than in 2024, when the account received about UAH 16 billion.
Where the money went
In 2025, more than UAH 88 billion was transferred from the NBU’s special account for defense needs. For comparison, in 2024, this amount was only about UAH 5.9 billion.
In total, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than UAH 122.6 billion has already been allocated for defense through the special account, of which almost UAH 26 billion was allocated in December 2025 alone.
How much money is left
As of January 1, 2026, the balance of funds on the NBU’s special account exceeds UAH 24.7 billion. This means that the state retains a significant financial reserve to quickly finance the needs of the army at the beginning of the new year.
In total, since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the NBU’s special account has received almost UAH 146.8 billion. These figures demonstrate the stable support of the Defense Forces by citizens, businesses and international partners, even in the fourth year of the war.
