Donations have skyrocketed: in 2025, Ukrainians and businesses transferred record amounts to the NBU’s special account for the military

In 2025, the National Bank of Ukraine’s special account for supporting the Armed Forces received nearly 97 billion hryvnias—several times more than the previous year. In December alone, the account received approximately 20 billion hryvnias, marking one of the highest monthly figures since the start of the full-scale war.
This was reported by the NBU press service , according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The NBU’s special account was opened on February 24, 2022—the day Russia’s full-scale invasion began. It became one of the key channels for raising funds for defense needs—from weapons and ammunition to medical supplies.
By the end of 2025, the volume of inflows was nearly six times higher than in 2024, when approximately 16 billion hryvnias were deposited into the account.
Where the money went
Throughout 2025, over 88 billion UAH was transferred from the NBU’s special account for defense needs. By comparison, in 2024, this amount was only about 5.9 billion UAH.
In total, since the start of the full-scale invasion, over 122.6 billion UAH has been allocated to defense funding through the special account, of which nearly 26 billion UAH was transferred in December 2025 alone.
As of January 1, 2026, the balance in the NBU’s special account exceeds 24.7 billion UAH. This means that the state maintains a significant financial reserve for the prompt funding of the army’s needs at the start of the new year.
In total, since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, nearly 146.8 billion UAH has been transferred to the NBU’s special account.
